FOUR swimmers from Ripley swimming club Rascals recently competed at the Midlands Championships in the 50m pool at Coventry, having achieved the qualifying times for this regional competition during the previous eight months.
All four produced some great swims at this major event in the swimming calendar.
The youngest competing for Rascals was ten-year-old Matthew Cross.
Matt qualified for five events, and did extremely well to finish second in the 100m freestyle, fourth in 200m freestyle, seventh in 400m individual medley and 9th in 100m backstroke.
Matt finished seventh overall in the region, which is a wonderful achievement from a swimmer who is showing great potential for the future.
Jamie Ingram (13) qualified for eight events, achieving fifth place in 100m butterfly, seventh in 400m individual medley and eighth in 200m individual medley, and 11th in 400m freestyle.
He finished in seventh place in the gruelling 1500m (equivalent to 60 lengths of a 25m pool!), finishing in a time just over 18 minutes, a new Rascals All Time Best record.
Edward Borysiak, 13, swam in five events, finishing 11th in 200m backstroke, and 12th in 400m freestyle.
Fearn Middleton, 11, swam in two events, the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke, and gained valuable experience in her first Midlands championships.
