Another fine win for Duffield 1sts

Duffield CC 1sts continued their unbeaten fine run of form on Saturday, by beating Staveley Welfare, which means they haven’t lost for over half a season.

Duffield won the toss and elected to bat on a hot day with a very flat looking track.

It proved to be the right call as Alex Jones yorked Tom Bullimore second ball of the game and also picked up Dave Gray with another yorker.

Joe Bullimore was then LBW to Jones. The only resistance came from the captain Chris Bullimore, whose patient 78 gave the scoreboard some respectability. He was eventually undone by another Jones yorker. Adam Short also picked up the wicket of John May who batted a patient 40 balls for his eight runs.

Jones’s final wicket was that of Luke Mantle with another yorker, finishing with figures of 5-68 off 14 overs. He was well supported by Richard Jordan, who bowled a tight spell, finishing with 15 overs for only 23 runs, which included six maidens.

The Staveley tail was mopped up by Dan Challinor, who finished with figures of 4-24 of 8.5 overs.

This left Duffield the task of chasing down 155 off 52 overs. The reply didn’t get off to the best of starts with Matt Goodacre pulling Pemberton straight to square leg.

After a slight reshuffle of the order, Peter Jenkins was promoted to three and it proved to be the right call as he and opener Jack Clark proceeded to chip away at the total. They both batted calmly and punished any stray bowling, Clark eventually fell for 70 with only one run required for the win.

Thomas Roe came in and dispatched what would be the final ball of the game for six, Jenkins finished on 64 not out.

A very professional performance from Duffield which now means they sit fifth on 209 points and a game in hand on the top two Matlock and Eckington.

Next week sees Duffield welcome Elvaston to Eyes Meadows, with the game starting at 1pm.
