With the season just around the corner, Marehay Cricket Club is looking forward to another exciting campaign for its four adult and five junior teams.
On the senior front, the first team will again be competing in Division One of the Derbyshire County League with the second team in Division Four and the thirds in Division Six, plus the Sunday side playing in Division Three of the Mansfield Sunday League, having gained promotion last season.
The junior sides, with two under 11s kwik cricket teams, plus the under 12s, 13s and 15s, will be playing in the Notts and Derby Border Youth Leagues.
The first registration nights for the juniors will be held at the clubhouse on Monday, March 25, and Monday, April 1, and hopefully outdoor training and registrations will begin on Monday, April 8, all from 6.30pm.
The senior indoor nets are still taking place on Thursday at Aldercar School, from 8pm-10pm and the first scheduled outdoor game should be the County League 20/20 final, carried over from last season, when Marehay play Matlock at Alfreton on Sunday, April 14.
Before then, the Natwest Cricketforce day is Saturday, April 6, when members are asked to come and prepare the ground for the new season, and also arranged for Saturday, April 13 is a fundraising race-night, which is open to anyone who wants to attend. It gets under way at the clubhouse at 7.30pm.
The club’s main sponsor will once again be Marehay Vauxhall Garage and Marehay CC would like to thank them, and all their sponsors, for their continuing support and would love to hear from anyone who would like to sponsor the club in any way.
New players at both senior and junior level are always welcome, as are any volunteers who feel they could help in some way. Contact with the club can be made via www.marehaycc.co.uk or by ringing Mick Buckley on 07773 645746.
Alternatively, feel free to come along and take a look at the ground and clubhouse, which can be hired for all types of functions.
