Alfreton Cricket Club continued their current successful run with a ten-wicket win at Elvaston on Saturday in Division One of the DCCL.
After asking Elvaston to take first knock, Alex Mace’s side took a firm grip on proceedings from the start and never really let go.
It was again Adam Burton who made early inroads, with a couple of quick wickets as the visitors’ attack made light of the sweltering heat.
Despite fighting 30s from Akhtar and Johnson, the home side could not get any real momentum in to their innings.
Wickets continued to tumble and the home side were bowled out for 176 in the 48th over.
There were four wickets each for Burton and Matt Lineker in a good all round bowilng performance.
In reply, Lineker and Ryan Bramwell made a confident start and it soon became clear that the threatened rain was the only likely issue to prevent an Alfreton win.
Lineker was in particarly good form with seven sixes in an unbeaten 111 and Bramwell gave good support with 53 not out as Alfreton coasted home with 20 overs to spare.
This weekend, Alfreton entertain Ilkeston on Saturday and visit Rolleston on Sunday in the cup semi final. Both matches start at 1 pm.
