Alfreton win at the double

Alfreton CC 1sts enjoyed two positive results in consecutive days as their season continues to go from strength to strength.

On Saturday, Alfreton hosted Rolls Royce with the away side winning the toss and deciding to bat first.

They lost an early wicket to the bowling of Jonathon Clarke, that of Murtaza Hussain for eight.

From there, starts from Mohammed Ayub (29) and Waseem Mohammed (32) got the Rolls Royce innings on par.

Mehmoon Tariq (73) and Sahd Shafiq (48) then made sure the visitors posted a competitive total of 246-9.

In reply, the early loss of Ryan Bramwell was the early breakthrough Rolls Royce needed.

However, a 182-run partnership between Matt Lineker (112) and Alex Mace made the total look easy work.

Lineker and Andy Gwatkin did fall late on but Mace was unmoved as he ended on 95 not out to take Alfreton home after just 40.3 overs.

On Sunday, Alfreton were in Marston’s Smooth Trophy quarter final action against Nutbrook, again at Alfreton Park.

Nutbrook decided to bat first and Adam Burton made them pay by taking the first five wickets as the visitors fell to 49-5.

Captain Steven Sanderson wasn’t going to lay down without a fight as he punished the Alfreton bowlers in a quick fire knock.

However, he was without support throughout as only Daniel Kerry (18) reached double figures.

When Sanderson was last man out for 96 off just 68 balls, Nutbrook had reached 154 all out, Burton ending with 6-43.

In reply, openers Bramwell and Simpson made easy work of the total ,providing no real chances throughout.

Bramwell ended on 75 and Simpson 59 as Alfreton progressed to the semi-final of the cup.

This weekend, Alfreton travel to Duffield, looking to extend their lead at the top of the Division One table.
