Derbyshire Senior Cup, second round
Alfreton Town 7
Holbrook MW 2
Alfreton Town eased into the last eight of the Derbyshire Senior Cup thanks to a four-goals in 14 minutes blast late in the second half.

Despite a four division gulf between the sides, Holbrook MW deserve credit for their persistence in trying to
play football although they had little end product throughout with Karl Demidh badly lacking support up front.

Alfreton went in front on 14 minutes when Josh Law rifled home from ten yards and it became 2-0 on 33 when Liam Hearn profited from close range after Welfare keeper Damien Clark spilled a Law cross from the right.

Holbrook scored one of the best goals of the night when they reduced the arrears on 54 minutes, Shaun Roulston powering home an eight yard header to finish a Dave Moon corner.

The Reds went 3-1 up when Andy Todd netted an Ian Ross cross on the near post on 63, Holbrook's appeals for offside coming to nothing as match referee Nigel Smith of Chesterfield overruled his assistant as there was clearly a defender and keeper Clark on the line.

The Brookies hit back again to reduce the arrears to 3-2 on 71 minutes. Joe Kellogg's surge into the penalty area was ended by Aden Flint's trip
and despite Paddy Gamble saving Gavin Whitehead's spot-kick, Whitehead followed up to net the rebound.

The goal proved a catalyst for Alfreton who moved up through the gears. They went 4-2 up within the same minute when substitute Paul Clayton got free down the right and crossed for Todd to net his second of the tie on the back post.

Two minutes later Josh Law easily despatched a penalty after Holbrook keeper Clark felled the Reds midfield player and it was 5-2 and tie over.

Alfreton added two further goals when Hearn created a yard of space in the penalty area before smacking home an eight yarder on 79 minutes then Clayton stuck out a leg on 85 minutes to divert a Ross cross from close range and seal a tough looking final scoreline for the battling Brookies.
