Alfreton Town Under-19s clinched the Windsor Foodservices North Midlands Under-19 Football League Division One title on Thursday night with a 2-0 home win over Handsworth which gave them the championship by one point ahead of Dunkirk.
It was the very last game of the whole division and in a must win game, the Reds had goalkeeper Matt Wakefield to thank for saving a sixth minute penalty, centre back Joe Storer completing the clearance after he had been very harshly adjudged to have
handled in the area in the first place.
Neil Cluxton's side then settled to create a handful of chances against a hard working Handsworth team but it took until the 42nd minute for the breakthrough to come, Joe Storer heading home via the inside of a post from Lewis Jackson's corner.
Less than a minute later Jacob Walters Lang was sent through the middle and he produced a sublime chip over the visiting keeper for 2-0.
The young Reds were hardly troubled at the back in the second half and the final whistle brought great scenes of jubilation as the Reds celebrated an exceptional season with a well deserved double of league title and Mini Shield as well as being League Cup runners-up.
