A woman has been taken to hospital after a two-car crash on a main road in Derbyshire this morning.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the A61 between Clay Cross and Alfreton at about 7.30am.

A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesman said: "The incident happened before the turn-off to Mickley and involved a Citroen Berlingo and a Ford Focus.

"The fire service needed to take the roof off the Citroen to rescue a woman.

"She's been taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital - at this stage, her injuries aren't known.

"The vehicle recovery service is now at the scene."
