Reader Melvin Harvey took this photograph of no less than 81 whooper swans at Mapperley Reservoir in Shipley Country Park earlier this year.
The large swan is mainly a winter visitor to the UK from Iceland.
The whooper swan is bigger than a Bewick’s swan. It has a long thin neck, which it usually holds erect, and black legs. Its black bill has a large triangular patch of yellow on it.
