For years John Lewis has been heralded the master of the spell-binding Christmas advert, but maybe this year Sainsburys is a contender...

Sainsburys official Christmas advert was released yesterday, leaving many taking to social media to debate which is best - Sainsburys, or John Lewis.

The new TV ad is shown to revive Mog the forgetful cat, a children's book character created by author Judith Kerr, and seen for the first time over 10 years.

Now the ad is competing with department stores owner John Lewis for their beautiful man on the moon, which is already bumped off the Twitter trends list by Sainsburys's #ChristmasIsForSharing campaign, in aid of Save the Children
