Temporary roadside signs warning drivers and riders to look out for each other this winter have been put up around Derbyshire.

The reflective signs have been placed on 18 routes with a history of crashes involving drivers and motorcyclists.

The routes are:

• A6005 and B6540 - Long Eaton

• A61 - Higham to Alfreton

• A444 Burton Road - Stanton

• A609 High Lane - Stanley Common

• A619 Ringwood Road - Brimington

• B6013 Chesterfield Road - Belper to Heage

• B5010 - Borrowash to Sandiacre

• B6179 - Ripley to Kilburn

• B6057 Sheffield Road - Chesterfield

• B6425 Hassocky Lane - Temple Normanton to Arkwright

• A6006 Derby Road (Raynesway roundabout section) – Spondon

• Burton Road (near North Street) - Littleover

• Sinfin Lane (near Wordsworth Avenue) - Derby

• A516 Uttoxeter New Road (near Trowels Lane) - Derby

• B6000 Railway Terrace – Derby

• A6096 Dale Road (near Sandringham Drive) - Spondon

• A6 London Road (west of A5111 road) – Alvaston

• A52 Friar Gate (from Ashbourne Road to Markeaton Roundabout) - Derby

Half of the signs remind motorcyclists to filter with care when there’s queueing traffic and the remaining ones warn drivers to ‘Think Bike’ and to check their mirrors when turning.

Andy Adlington, Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership’s motorcycle safety officer, said: “In Derbyshire, countryside crashes involving motorcyclists tend to be caused by rider error – but in urban areas the blame tends to be more evenly split between drivers and the riders themselves. That’s why we’re appealing to both groups to look out for each other during the winter months when bad weather can increase the risk of crashes.”
