VILLAGERS have joined forces to give their ailing Scout hut a new lease of life.

The building on Jeffries Lane, Crich, is set to celebrate its 45 anniversary and a fundraising drive have been launched to pay for a major £2,000 refurbishment.

Shelley Yeoman, who grew up in the village and uses the hut for weekly zumba sessions, raised over £300 for the make-over by hosting a quiz at the Kings Arms pub.

She said: “The Scout hut is an important facility for the village. It is used by several community groups.

“When the floor has been repaired it could be used for more things and by more people to keep funds coming in to help run it.

“It has been used by most families in Crich , including mine, for the past 45 years and I hope it continues for another 45.”

The hut is in desperate need of a new floor and residents have received a £1,000 grant towards the project. Crich Zumba group, which meet at the building on Friday evening, is holding a two-hour zumba party on March 30 at 6.30pm. Doors open at 6.15pm. Everyone is welcome and all proceeds will go to the appeal.
