A South Wingfield mum of two has raised £3,115 for Kidney Research UK after completing the Virgin London Marathon in four hours and 27 minutes.
Babs Ingram, 45, said It was a memorable experience, with wonderful support from the crowd.
She said: “This charity is close to my heart as, sadly, my brother-in-law Chris died of kidney failure having had kidney problems from birth.
“He received a kidney donated by his brother Andy, but this was rejected, and when he had a second transplant, although initially successful, he developed complications and passed away at the age of 31.
“My in-laws have raised lots of money for kidney charities, and still help run the Kidney Patients Association at Birmingham’s QE hospital.”
As Babs is a surgeon at Alfreton Park Veterinary Hospital, she hopes one day the charity’s work will extend to research into kidney disease in animals.
She added: “I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored me, I truly appreciate their support.”
