Talented youngsters at Alfreton Grange Arts College put on a week of fundraising shows this week to commemorate a much-loved teaching assistant.

Matt Bingham, from Stonebroom, worked in the arts department and died aged 31, of a heart-related illness in May this year.

Students staged a concert of song and dance to raise cash for the British Heart Foundation on Wednesday night.

A CD song, entitled Not Meant To Be, which was performed by Chloe Gadd and written by technician Rob Hill, has been recorded and is available on iTunes.

Sixth form student Olivia Wood, 16, said: “Everyone knew him and loved him to bits. It happened so fast and it hit everyone really hard.”

Dance teacher Vicky Worthington added: “Two members of staff ran a marathon and me and a colleague completed the 17-mile High Peak Trail to raise money.”
