A training firm which has worked with Derbyshire’s youngsters for more than 18 years has launched a new-look academy that aims to offer expert career advice.
The Acorn Academy is run by Acorn Training Consultants. It provides expert support to young people aged between 16 and 19, especially those who are unsure about the direction they wish to take after finishing their GCSEs, regardless of their results.
The academy, an alternative option to sixth form or college, runs from centres in Ripley and Chesterfield and provides a range of course options to suit individual needs from catering and health and social care, to sport, IT and construction skills.
Rachel Kayes, Acorn Academy manager, said the team was ready and waiting to support young people and their families.
“We are here to help young people between the ages of 16 and 19 who are unsure what to do despite their results,” she said.
“Our tutors will help plan and prepare students for their chosen career path and support their next step.
“We have outstanding success rates within our qualifications, and we provide a real alternative to sixth form and college.
“So if you didn’t get the GCSE results you were hoping for, or are not sure what to do next, our team is on hand to help you, not only gain qualifications and experience, but also gain confidence and self-esteem to make the right career choices.”
Students enrolling at the Acorn Academy are eligible to receive paid bonuses for completing a vocational qualification and progressing through the programme; their travel costs are paid, along with an apprenticeship wage for completing work experience.
