The season to be merry was officially started with the switch on of the Christmas lights in Ripley.

The festive display was switched on with a grand ceremony on Friday, November 28, on Ripley Market Place.

Mayor Councillor Roland Emmas-Williams turned on the annual illumination at 6.30pm.

There was also free children’s rides, a silver band playing, carol singing and a Christmas-themed fancy dress competition.

A local radio station provided a live outside broadcast, hot and cold food was available and the Christmas tree was displayed in all its finery.
