Making Music: Michael Gibson, three of Matlock, Daisy Morris, four, of Cromford and ten-month-old Lucas Fellows of Matlock enjoy their sing-a-long at Matlock Library as they take part in the Top of the Tots event.

MATLOCK Library re-opened recently following a refurbishment – and was given a chorus of approval by youngsters.

The Steep Turnpike building was closed so a new self-service terminal could be installed, along with a new counter.

The terminals have already been installed at Bakewell and Wirksworth.

But the usual peace and quiet of Matlock Library was put on hold as children under ther age of five were invited along to take part in a Top of The Tots with singer-songwriter Mark Lilley.

The singalong involved using props and musical instruments to recreate their favourite songs and nursery rhymes.

Musician Mark, who works for Derbyshire County Council said: “The event was a resounding success with one of the parents saying ‘I have never known an hour to pass so quickly’.”

The library has now reopened at its usual hours, from 9am to 5pm Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9am to 7pm on Tuesdays and Fridays and from 9am to 4pm on Saturdays.
