A SIBERIAN husky has been the runaway winner of this year’s competition.

Dozens of proud pet owners sent in snaps of their beloved bunnies, pooches and moggies to take part in the competition – but only one animal could win the coveted 2012 Pets on Parade title.

It was a landslide victory for nine-month-old Shadow, whose big eyes and pointed ears won the hearts of Matlock Mercury readers – securing 75 votes.

Shadow, owned by Samii Ball and Sam Barnes, fought off fierce competition from some of the area’s cutest four-legged friends, to be named top dog.

Spotted, striped and fluffy pets sporting big bows and hats with mischievous looks on their faces contended for the title.

Photographed lazing in their homes, running through fields and looking coyly to the camera, they were all in with a shot at the 2012 title.

The Mercury was delighted when once again, John Purdon from Nose 2 Tail, in Bakewell Road, Matlock, gave his support to the contest.

As a prize for winning the competition, loveable pup Shadow will be awarded with the top prize of £60 worth of vouchers, courtesy of the pet shop.

The dog’s owners will be able to spend the vouchers on anything in store.

Second place were awarded to pretty pooch Rastas, who was a popular candidate.

Owner David Pearson, of Mooredge Farm, Tansley, will be able to pick up his prize of £20 worth of vouchers.

The proud pet owners of the winning dogs have been asked to contact the Matlock Mercury by calling 01629 762120 to arrange to collect their prizes.
