People are now saying we do not want another supermarket in Ilkeston as the town will become a ghost town.
Well, believe it or not, I have been saying this for the past 20-30 years but I don’t think the powers-that-be thought it would happen.
The decline of Ilkeston started with the relief road and pedestrianisation on Bath Street. Ilkeston is already a ghost town. Building new houses will not mean more people shopping in the town In fact all the houses that were demolished for the relief road were well-built and could have been modernised.
Ilkeston is like any other town – it has no character.
