THIEVES have stolen a heavy weight plastic penguin mascot from a holiday park.

The owner of the Golden Valley Caravan Park has issued a plea for information leading to the thieves’ arrest and the return of the 4ft high heavy weight penguin. Raiders took the colourful penguin, complete with bright orange plastic beak, on Tuesday, February 15. The penguin, doubles as a giant litter bin.

They also took a recycling bin containing just tinned cans.

Owner Darren Fretwell said the penguin sat on a children’s play area. He believes the thieves may have been on the lookout for scrap metal to sell.

He said: “I want it back because it cost £400, which isn’t cheap to buy.

“They would have had to carry it 100 metres to the nearest road and they would have needed a van.

“Whoever pinched it could have put it on someone’s garden. Some dog walker might see it in a hedge or floating in the river.”

Mr Fretwell has bought a £400 replacement. If you have seen the plastic mascot contact Derbyshire Constabulary on 0345 1233333.
