THE stars of soap opera Emmerdale, past and present, faced police officers as part of a charity cricket match to raise funds for multiple sclerosis.

The event, which was organised by PC Michael Bott, included a ‘black tie’ dinner dance on Saturday night, followed by the match at Denby Cricket Club on Sunday.

The event managed to raise between £6,000 and £7,500, say the organisers, as a good crowd turned out to watch the sides battle out a well fought draw - with both sides finishing on 118 runs after the 20 over match.

PC Bott said last year the cricket club charity match raised £1,000 and thanked the Emmerdale cast members for taking part this year.

He said: “It was a fun day, every one of the cast members had a go and we got around 2,000 people through the gates. A few of the cast members took a catch or two, it was great.”

Other activities on the day included a hog roast, local craft stalls, inflatable games and rides, a raffle with locally donated prizes.

The attending cast members were the long serving Chris Chittell as team captain, Frazer Hinds, Roxanne Shahidi, Georgia Slowe, Mathew Bose, Julia Mallam and Joe-Warren Plant.
