Snow was starting to fall in the Ripley, Ilkeston, Eastwood and Heanor areas this morning, residents have been reporting.
It is the first snowfall of the year so far in the area and started at about 9.30am, but weather forecasters are not predicting we will see too much of it as it turns to sleet and rain throughout the day.
If you have any pictures of the snow email them to us.
The forecasters are saying today will be a cold, cloudy day, with the risk of icy patches this morning. Wintry showers are expected, with some snow at times. But increasingly it will turn to rain or sleet this afternoon with snow reserved for the Derbyshire hills later.
Tonight there will be a few showers, but mainly becoming dry through the night. There will be slight frost in some places with mist or fog patches also possible.
