A mum-of-two is set to launch a new slimming group in Heanor after a car accident in the late stages of her pregnancy sparked a battle with her weight.

Michelle Selby has become a Slimming World consultant thanks to a group in
Greasley which helped her drop two dress sizes after a car accident caused her to rapidly gain weight.

In August 2007, at 37 weeks pregnant, the nursery nurse was involved in a car accident on the A610 which
exacerbated back problems caused by a very large baby.

Although Michelle did not sustain any major injuries and the baby was not affected, after the birth she struggled with ongoing back problems and her weight ballooned to a size 18.

Michelle said: “Although I wanted to lose weight to feel healthier, I also wanted to fit into my wedding dress for mine and my husband’s tenth wedding anniversary.”

“I knew it wasn’t something that would happen overnight but I was prepared to put in the hard word and dedication that it needed. I can’t explain the sense of achievement I now feel – the hard slog was worth it.”

She joined the Slimming World class at Greasley Miners Welfare, on Dovecote Road, in January 2011 and by July had lost two stone and five pounds.

The 40-year-old said that her successful weight loss was down to the support of
consultant April Ellis who runs the group.

Michelle, who is now a size 14, said: “April’s support
during my attempt to lose weight was first class and I owe her so much.”

She said that her own
experiences inspired her to launch a new group in Heanor.

The super-slimmer
formerly from Eastwood added: “Obesity is becoming a huge issue across the UK.

“When I joined Slimming World I never dreamed that I would end up helping other people to lose weight, but now I am ready for a new challenge.

“It is a privilege to be able to pass on the experience,
insight and understanding that I learnt.

“I can give my members the support they need to help them to reach their target weight.”

The launch of her new group takes place on
Wednesday, October 8, from 5pm until 7pm in Heanor Town Hall.
