A Selston mum-of-two is riveting readers on Amazon as romantic comedy lovers flock to snap up her debut novel, Antidote to Infidelity.
Karla Hall, 34, launched the novel on Amazon for the Kindle with hundreds of readers downloading the book - pushing it into the top 10,000 for worldwide paid-for sales.
Freelance journalist Karla says she’s thrilled with the novel’s early success: “I’m really excited – and exhausted! It’s been a bit of a roller-coaster and some 24-hour stints at the keyboard but it’s worth it to know it’s out there and hopefully being enjoyed.
“I’ve put heart and soul into writing Antidote to Infidelity and am totally in love with all the characters. They’ve been real to me from day one, like a whole world running alongside mine, but this really brings them to life.
“I’m so very grateful to everyone who buys the book, thank you so much.”
Set in the fictional cosmopolitan town of Goldwell Holt in Nottinghamshire, the story is told in the first person through protagonist Sally Moss, a stressed mother of twins on the brink of a Christmas marital meltdown as her handsome husband, Will, confesses he’s been unfaithful.
With their relationship in casualty, dashing doctor Mike Foster - with his scalpel-sharp wit and bewitching bedside manner - has her pounded heart racing off the charts.
It’s obvious the hunky medic is up for some post-surgery passion - but Sally’s not that kind of girl. Or is she?
Her quirky circle of close friends prescribe revenge, so Sally must decide if a fling with the delectable doctor is really the antidote to infidelity.
Exploring the concept that modern marriages contain many more than two people, the novel takes a light-hearted look at motherhood, relationships, adultery, jealousy,
revenge, deceit, insecurity and much more.
Packed with humour, irony and delicious twists throughout, the novel has ‘all the escapism and sparkle a truly great rom-com should have’. The raw manuscript received great acclaim at Transworld Publishers before being picked up by leading London literary agent Conville and Walsh, who worked intensely with Karla for four months to produce an improved and polished final text.
Karla hopes to see her second novel, Foster Wife, published late autumn.
