A PAIR of proud scouts have had their hard work recognised by a member of the royal family.

Dean Davis and Anthony Leech, of the Leopard Explorer Scout Unit, Holloway, attended Saint James’s Palace in London to receive their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards from Prince Philip himself.

Both had earned the award by completing a five day expedition in wild country.

They also took part in sports, hobbies and community involvement activities over a one year period.

The young men agreed that it was a great honour to receive the award.

They gave their thanks to Heather Staple for helping them to achieve the tasks and all the explorer leaders for their support and dedication.

The scouts will not be away from royal company long as they are due to receive their Queen Scout Awards soon.

They will be taking part in the St George’s Day parade at Windsor Castle on the April 29.
