New ‘scooter pods’ are in place at Somercotes Infant School thanks to a £510 donation from the partner of a much loved school figure.

Midday supervisor and lollipop lady Sandra Thorp e died after a battle with illness shortly before the start of the summer holidays. Here her partner Michael Cawley hands the school a cheque - after friends and family left donations at her funeral . School head teacher Sarah Sisson said the pods, which will allow youngsters to park their scooters in school, are a fitting tribute to the lollipop lady, from Somercotes, with a big sense of humour. “Everybody in Somercotes knew her,” she said. “She was always laughing.”
