This festive fellow is a Santa Claus with plenty of spring in his step.

Ripley man Ron Coates took part in the annual Santa Run event which saw 300 participants don the traditional red outfit and white beard to raise money for Loughborough’s Rainbows Children’s Hospice.

The 83-year-old was the oldest runner to take on the four-and-a-half mile course round Elvaston Castle in Borrowash, near Derby. Here he is pictured with chairman of South Derbyshire District Council Neil Atkin and consort Barbara Jackson after the event.

Ron said: “I run at least two miles every day and I do a 10k at the weekend, so I like to keep myself fit and active. Rainbows is a really worthwhile cause.”

Loughborough based Rainbows Children’s Hospice cares and support for seriously ill children.
