Salons come under attack

An investigation has been launched after attacks on four hair salons in the Ripley and Heanor area in as many days this week.

On Tuesday, August 7, a dog walker dialled 999 at 5.30am to report that the front door of Hair 4 U on Maple Avenue, Ripley was broken into.

Raiders had entered the store overnight and taken a small amount of cash.

Then overnight between Thursday, August 8 and the next morning, three more salons were targeted in Codnor, Ripley and Heanor.

At 4am on the Friday morning a policeman on patrol spotted the windows of Shaw’s gentleman’s hairdressers had been smashed with a brick - although the inside of the premises was untouched.

At 5.40am a passer-by rang police to report similar damage to Alison Clare hairdressers, Nottingham Road, Ripley. Then at 6am, another passer by called 999 to report smashed windows and a damaged interior at Halo hairdressers, on Ray Street, Heanor.

Police are now calling for anyone with information about the incidents to call the force on 101.

Business manager at Shaw’s in Codnor Mark Allen said: “There was glass everywhere. I have no idea why someone would do this.”
