WEIGHTWATCHERS have taken part in a treadmill marathon at Ripley Leisure Centre.

More than 30 members of Weightwatchers groups from Ripley, Heanor, Alfreton and Belper covered a total of 98.189 miles at Saturday’s event.

Organiser Denise Clarke said: “Some people were runners and others had never been on a treadmill before in their lives – so people did as much or as little as they felt comfortable with. It worked out that we covered the equivalent of 3.75 marathons. The idea was to get people into the gym who had never been there before.”

So far the marathon has raised more than £500, to be split between the neonatal unit at Royal Derby Hospital and Tommy’s the baby charity.
