The route has been revealed for the Derbyshire stage of the Aviva Tour of Britain, as excitement builds ahead of the arrival of Britain’s premier road cycle race.

Large crowds are expected to turn out to catch a glimpse of star names from the world of cycling as them compete in the 189 kilometre stage six of the event on Friday September 11.

Starting in Stoke-on-Trent and finishing in Nottingham, the toughest stage of the entire tour will pass through large parts of Derbyshire including Buxton, Whaley Bridge, Grindleford, Chatsworth, Bakewell, Matlock, Cromford, Carsington, Belper and Ilkeston.

Derbyshire County Council Deputy Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, Councillor John Owen, said: “We’re delighted to welcome the Aviva Tour of Britain to Derbyshire and want to make sure that our local businesses make the most of the opportunities it will bring.

“The Tour will bring a boost to local businesses with visitors staying over in the county to make the most of our food and drink and tourist attractions.

“We’d like to encourage accommodation providers and tourist attractions to think about putting on special offers for the weekend – to encourage people to really make a weekend of it.”

The 2015 Tour of Britain will start in Wales for the first time in the modern race’s history, with Anglesey hosting the start of the opening stage to Wrexham on Sunday September 6, finishing eight days later in the heart of London with an iconic new circuit taking in many of the capital’s world famous sights.

ITV will screen three-hours of live coverage of every stage, starting on ITV for the opening Wales stage before reverting to ITV4 for Stages Two to Eight. ITV4 will also screen a one-hour highlights programme each evening during the race.
