A community group has presented a mother with a cheque for £500 to help pay for her son’s physiotherapy.

Matlock Rotary Club has awarded the cash to Jodie Rogers, of Darley Dale, whose son, Joel, suffers from cerebral palsy.

The eight-year-old underwent ground-breaking surgery three months ago in Bristol.

The youngster now has to undergo intensive physiotherapy to build up the muscles in his legs, as well as use new equipment.

Club member John Bent said: “It’s part of our remit to try and help children in the Matlock area, so he’s a very deserving case.”

Meanwhile, Darley Dale convenience shop, Local 4 U, helped raise over £450 for Joel in recent months with a raffle, as well as £343 for British Heart Foundation by selling bags for life.

Manager Wendy Spencer said: “We’d like to thank those who bought tickets and bags.”
