This trio of musicians are set to take Somercotes on a guided history of pop music
Junction, other wise known as brothers Daniel and Benji Heenan along with drummer Ryan Mcfall are due to perform a new show entitled Rock of Ages at the Somerlea Park Community Centre on Friday, June 22. Doors open 7pm and tickets are £5.
The show will feature songs from every decade from the 1950s through to the present day, complete with costume changes that will see the band, all from Newlands Road in the village originally, appear in the guise of everything from a teddy boy to a 70s rocker. Lead singer Benji Heenan, 22, fnow of Wagstaff Lane, Jacksdale, and donning the 1980s heavy metal look on the left here, said: “I t should be a great night really celebrating rock history. With all the costumes it will be funny, but really profesional.”jacksdale
Bassist Daniel, 24, modelling 70s rock attire, and sporting his own hair, said the show will be complete with laser lighting and video interludes in between the different decades of music. It will start with early American blues rock from the likes of Elvis and Chuck Berry and end with contemporary rock such as Kings of Leon and the Killers.
But joiner-by-day Daniel, who performs more than 100 gigs a year with the band said all costume changes have proved tricky in rehearsal.
He said: “Between each decade of music we have an interval tape that plays on a projector. We’ve just got a minute and a half to get off the stage , get changed, swap guitars and get back on stage to play again - we can just about do it!”
Despite all being in their early 20s, Junction have formed ten years ago and play at venues across the UK.
Manager of the Somerlea Park Centre, on Sherwood Street, Brian Wood is excited to have booked the Riddings band for the not-for-profit run centre.
He said:”I think it will be a great night, I would like to think we’ll get 150 people turn up.”
Tickets for the night cost £5 and are available from the venue or from The Establishment hairdressers on High street in Alfreton, and doors are set to open at 7pm.
