A former real life cowboy has thanked the News after our appeal helped reunite him with his beloved Western riding saddle.

The treasured item, hand engraved with Mexican markings, was stolen from Clarence and Olive Roundtree’s home on Main Road, Pye Bridge, during a burglary in April.

Last month 89-year-old Mr Roundtree, who worked all his life on a Colorado ranch in the Rocky Mountains foothills, put up a £500 reward for its return, telling the News: “I would hate to lose that saddle - it’s about the only thing that connects me with the past.”

And now the appeal has paid off - after a man got in contact with police to tell them he had found the stolen item at a cattle sale in Derby.
