Railway station parking charges begin soon

rail users are facing the prospect of paying to park are a train station.

East Midlands Trains has announced it will be introducing a £2 daily charge at Cromford Station from April 30.

Motorists will be charged £8 to park for a week, £24 for a month and £240 for a year.

The rail company claims the charges have been introduced as part of its ongoing multi-million pound station and fleet improvement programme, which is helping to deliver significant improvements to the stations and trains on East Midlands Trains’ local routes.

Andy Moore, head of stations for East Midlands Trains, said: “We are in the process of investing £10 million to improve stations across our network, and a significant proportion of this investment has been spent on improving our car parks.

“The new rates are competitively priced and they reflect the cost of alternative local car parking as well as our continuing investment to improve station facilities on these lines and our £5 million programme to refurbish the trains which serve them.”
