PLENTY of fun was had at Florence Shipley Nursing Home in Heanor as the elderly residents enjoyed a taste of the races.
Thirteen of the women at the home took part in an Ascot-style Ladies’ Day, complete with extravagant hats, Champagne and strawberries. The event was organised by June Cook, the home’s mobile hairdresser of 20 years.
une, from Pevrill Close in Riddings has been to the real Ladies’ Day at Ascot 17 times and for the event at the nursing home, she supplied the women, aged up to 101, with some of her large collection of race day hats on the day of the event.
June said: “It was a lovely event, even the staff thoroughly enjoyed it .”
The ladies placed non-cash bets on the day with the person with the most ‘fake’ money winning a large box of chocolates.
