YOUNGSTERS from Somercotes will be taking part in a day of poetry at their school.

Pupils from Somerlea Park Junior School, in Bank Road, will listen to poems and try their hand at writing them on Wednesday, June 29.

They will also be visited by the ‘Poet from the Peaks’ Andy Tooze, who will work with the youngsters on their literary creations during the day.

Andy, from Buxton, used to be a primary school teacher himself but is now a full time poet, visiting schools to share his works with youngsters, as well as writing books.

The Somerlea children will also invite in their parents to listen to their poems during the event, which they will have penned during the day, said a spokeswoman.
