RIPLEY rockers Okapi are all smiles after claiming top spot in the town’s battle of the bands competition.
Wednesday saw the climax of the six-week competition, which has been held at The Out of Town pub on Butterley Hill.
The foursome received enough votes from the crowd and judges to scoop a prize of recording time at Snug Records in Derby, a trophy and professional band photos.
Okapi’s lead guitarist, Jake Allsop, from Fletcher Street, Ripley, said: “We were very happy to win - we were shocked but we’re really grateful to everyone who came down and voted for us.”
The punk four-piece beat off other local bands, The Riverview and Bury The Ladybird in the final.
The champions won a prize package including, Rehearsal time at Belper’s Soundhub Studios, Recording time at Snug Records in Derby aswell as photography by an established proffesional photographer. The band also won the coveted winners trophy and the continued support of Deafbox Promotions to help push them as far as they can go in the world of music.
