Postal workers pleased as delivery office is saved

THE ROYAL Mail delivery office that serves Heanor has been saved from the axe following eight months of consultation.

Staff at the Ilkeston and Heanor delivery offices on Manners Avenue, Ilkeston, had been working with the threat of closure hanging over them since Royal Mail bosses announced they were considering a move to close down the site in July.

The original plan would have seen both Ilkeston and Heanor offices transfer to Derby.

But following talks with workers and unions, bosses have decided to keep the local office open.

However, the Derby site will now shut, with services there transferring to Nottingham’s mail centre in 2014.
