Police in Amber Valley are reminding residents not to leave their doors and windows open to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.

The advice comes as people might be more tempted to leave doors and windows open during the longer days and hotter nights.

Officers have also noticed a trend where the number homes affected by burglary tends to rise during the
summer months.

Community Safety
Inspector Russell Dakin said: “In 2013 64 more people
suffered a burglary during the summer months, compared to the spring, in the Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire, Bolsover and the Amber
Valley areas.
