The fire has affected a three-storey building - including a restaurant.

The occupants of a flat above the building were out by the time crews arrived, having been alerted to the fire by a working smoke alarm.

Crews are expected to be at the scene until later this morning.

A fire investigation will take place later this morning.

King Street, Alfreton is currently closed, however diversions directing traffic and providing access to the A38 are in place. It is expected that the road will remain closed until later this morning and commuters are advised to avoid the area if possible due to the volume of traffic.
