A TEN-MILE bike ride from Shipley Country Park along the Nutbrook Trail will take place on June 19 as part of National Bike Week. The gentle two-hour ride starts with a talk about the National Cycle Network from 1pm to 3pm and sets off from 3pm.
On June 30 there is a guided ride of up to eight miles around Shipley Country Park from 6pm to 8pm.
Both events are free but booking is essential. Call 01773 719961.
Bike week runs from June 18 to June 26 and Derbyshire County Council is encouraging people to get out and about and enjoy the benefits of pedal power.
Cllr Simon Spencer, said: “Many journeys made by car could be made by bike instead, so why not give cycling a go during Bike Week?
“It’s kind to the environment and it’s a great way to keep fit too. Also Derbyshire has some beautiful countryside so what better way to explore and enjoy it than on a bike?”
Details of other events happening during Bike Week in Derbyshire can be found at www.bikeweek.org.uk.
Anyone looking for ideas on where to ride their bike, including routes away from the roads, can take a look at Cycle Derbyshire – a free leaflet produced by the county council. For a copy, or for details of events and cycle hire, visit www.derbyshire.gov.uk/cycling or call 08456 058058.
