Heanor based driving instructor Andy Pearson narrowly missed out on being named the country’s top teacher at an award ceremony last weekend .
Andy, 37, whose extravagant driving school Drive Like a Rockstar only recently celebrated its first birthday, says he is thrilled to have beaten 42,000 other instructors to be named second best in the country ‘so early on in his independent career.’
His pupils voted en masse to put him forward for the Golden L awards, a national competition to find the UK’s top driving tutor - and phenomenally he picked up 50 per cent of votes across the whole competition, although despite this he narrowly missed out on the top spot by just ten votes to finish second.
He said: “I think I’d have perhaps preferred to finish 500th rather than second by such a small margin.
“I’m gutted to have just missed out but still, I’m very proud, especially regarding all the wonderful things voters said about me.
“The reaction in the local area has been brilliant, people have gone to the effort of making me trophies, despite not winning.”
