A new Sergeant has taken over the running of four Safer Neighbourhood policing teams in the Amber Valley area.

Sgt. Paul Stevenson, who has been a police officer for 11 years, is in charge of the teams which cover Ripley Town Centre, Codnor, Waingroves and Langley Mill, Heanor and Loscoe and Shipley, Smalley and Horsley.

Sgt. Stevenson has spent his entire career working in the Amber Valley as a response officer, and worked as a Sergeant in the area for more than three years.

Paul, who has family roots in the Amber Valley area, took over the reins from Sgt. Andy Philips earlier this month, as Sgt. Philips has moved to a role on the divisional Custody Investigation Unit.

Outside of work Sgt. Stevenson, when not busy at home with his wife and two young daughters, enjoys football and keeping active at the gym and through long distance running.

Sgt. Stevenson said: “Although it is a new role and new style of policing for me, I do know the area quite well having worked here for 11 years as a response officer and with local family roots.

“The Amber Valley is a great place to work, with many different communities across a vast area, and I’m lucky to have some great hard-working officers on my teams who are committed to helping their neighbourhoods stay safe and with low levels of anti-social behaviour.”

He added: “Our main focus will continue to be to target crime and anti-social behaviour, which can often be connected through the misuse of alcohol or drugs. I also want people to feel confident that they can contact us with any concerns or information.

“It’s important we know about local issues, because once we are aware then we can work to make a difference. We will also treat any information from the community with the strictest of confidence, carry out enquiries and act on it whenever possible.”
