Amber Valley’s new mayor says one of his main aims is to shine the limelight on local charities.
Councillor Trevor Ainsworth, the ward councillor for Kilburn, Denby and Holbrook, was installed in the civic role at the annual meeting of Amber Valley Borough Council last month.
Cllr Ainsworth, 54, lives in Smalley and will be joined by his wife Jennifer who will serve as mayoress.
He said: “One of my main areas of focus will be to ensure that everyone has the chance to have their say.
“I want to go around the whole area and not focus on one specific part of the Amber Valley.
“There’s many charitable organisations that I want to get involved with and try to raise their profile
“These charities work very hard. I’ve got first-hand experience with working with such organisations.
“The work that they do is impressive and they all do it in their own time.
“If I can raise the profile of local causes then that would be great.”
Cllr Ainsworth is a former police officer working in Belper, Ilkeston, Long Eaton and Alfreton.
He added: “I’ve lived in the Amber Valley most of my life and worked here before retiring.
“I want to talk to everyday people and hopefully give something back to them.
“I didn’t realise how busy I would be when I took on the role!”
