THE CENOTAPH in Heanor Memorial Park was re-dedicated last week following a revamp of the park.

A plaque commemorating those who died in the Falklands War was taken from the main gates and added to the names of the 137 men who died while serving their country.

The ceremony was performed by a chaplain from the Royal British Legion and attended by members of the Mercians regiment. Mayor of Amber Valley Cllr Ron Ashton said: “It will soon be Remembrance Sunday and we wanted it re-dedicated before November 11.” A parade to the cenotaph was led by a ram called Lance Corporal Derby, the Mercians’ mascot.
