A BELPER band has wowed the judging panel of the UK’s biggest original music competition.

Riptide has sailed through the audition stage of Live and Unsigned, competing against the most talented bands and artists in the country.

Will Hughes, bass guitarist for the band, said: “The audition was a lot of fun.

“We’re delighted that we have made it through to the regional final.

“This is something we never thought we’d be taking part in but we’re looking forward to competing.”

Chris Grayston, events director of Live and Unsigned, said: “Live and Unsigned is all about originality, live ability and credibility.

“We don’t accept demos or submissions and everyone auditions live.

“We’ve got some fantastic prizes up for grabs this year in a £100,000 prize pool, including a new main cash prize of £10,000.

“The festival slots and other prizes available make this year’s competition our biggest ever!”

Riptide will now go onto the Regional Final Showcase of Live and Unsigned 2012, which will take place on April 14 at Pride Park.
