Out the Box festival is set to return to Lower Somercotes even bigger and better this Friday with 170 acts across seven stages.

Organisers of the third annual festival at Amber Valley Rugby Club are hoping to see more than 1,000 revellers pass through the gates over the three -day festival of music and arts.

Codnor man Rory Black, 27, said: “ The line-up this year is immense – the interest we’ve had this year through the website has doubled since last year.

“Hopefully we will get a lot more people.”

Rory says this year all seven stages will be covered by marquees, to account for an almost certainly rainy forecast.

The event’s main stage, the I’m not From London stage, is set to feature Nottingham ska purveyors 25 Past the Skank as Saturday night headliners and will have an Alice in Wonderland theme.

And ten tonnes of sand were due to be shipped in today to convert the Big Back stage into an artificial beach. Other stages will feature an eclectic range of musical acts from rock to ‘acid techno’.

Rory, who works at TN Websters and Sons, in Heanor, said: “It’s difficult to organise while doing a day job, but it’s good fun when it all comes together.”

To buy tickets, priced £20 for the weekend, head to www.outtheboxfestival.co.uk.
