MP Nigel Mills officially opened a new stock and distribution centre at Slimming World’s headquarters in Somercotes, on Friday.
The 15,000 sq ft centre houses materials used by the firm’s 3,000 consultants and will allow the firm to cope with increasing demand.
Mr Mills, who also took a tour of Slimming World’s head office meeting many of the firm’s 250 staff, said: “Every MP in the House of Commons knows that obesity is an increasingly pressing problem for the government and it is an issue affecting every constituency. Here in Amber Valley 25.1 per cent of adults are obese and 18.4 per cent of children.
“The work that Slimming World is doing to support people to make healthy sustainable changes should be applauded and we should all be proud that a local business is making such a difference regionally, nationally and internationally. “It’s undeniable that today’s economic climate is a difficult one for businesses across the district, UK and globally so it’s even more encouraging to be seeing such success on our doorstep.”
