A SPRING clean of Heanor helped to raise more than £1,000 for Help for Heroes and the Army Benevolent Fund.

The event, organised by Heanor and Loscoe Safer Neighbourhood Team, took place last Friday and saw local schools take part in a sponsored litter pick in and around Heanor Market Place. Students were issued with litter pickers to clean up designated areas accompanied by members of Amber Valley Housing’s team.

A variety of stalls were also on hand with information from a number of agencies including, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Blend Youth Project, Veolia and Heanor Children’s Centre.

PCSO Emma Baker who organised the event said: “It is great to see so many children get involved and show enthusiasm about cleaning up the area where they live and go to school.”
