A GROUP of wildlife-loving walkers were treated to a tour of Hammersmith Meadows, in Ripley, as part of a Groundwork Derbyshire nature trail.

Community wild space officer, Gary Wain led the group of ramblers around the preserved area of untouched grassland.

He said the meadows are important as they have species of wild flower growing there and are a habitat for foxes, kestrels buzzards and finches, to name but a few.

Gary, who works with the community on a number of environmental projects, said: “The meadows are a nice place to get out and escape from the everyday problems of life and it is an important wildlife reserve.”
